Log BarnLog barns of this type were built by the pioneers in this area from the time of the first arrivals in the late 1860s and 1870s until they were replaced by frame barns beginning in the early 1900s. This type of building was constructed from the logs available as the settlers cleared their land. This particular barn was built in 1885 and was purchased by the Central Manitoulin Historical Society in 1995. The barn was torn down, moved and rebuilt in 1996 on the present location on the Pioneer Museum grounds.

Frame BarnFrame barns such as this one gradually replaced log barns. The farmer's cattle and horses were stabled in the lower part of the barn while the granary, hay lofts and threshing floor were in the upper part. This barn was originally framed in 1921 and was donated to the Historical Society by the owner and was torn down and rebuilt on the Pioneer Museum grounds between October 12, 1999 and October 29, 1999.
